that is why adding specific classes like this, as what EQ2 and WoW does, is pointless and why Guild Wars is more flexable...
Well they WILL make new classes in future expansions though.
Question is if they will give us races

What about if/when they created more races those races had there own classes? Maybe make warriors and elementalists generic so every race gets them but give them 3 or 4 of there own classes. I have faith the devs could balance out the new classes before it was released to the public.

Please, no more elves... I hate elves.... If you are an elf, anyone wearing a giant red suit should be able to enslave you.

We have professions that have skills that can be counter'd by any other professions' certain skills.

With the introduction of secondary races you begin to see conflict between being able to counter an attack that your skills are unable to defend or compete against.

It will add all kinds of problems...

No it wont...

No one is really advocating having races that have different powers here.

If there is going to be any other differences between races it could very well be minor ones.

Special race armor for each class comes to mind. (More cosmetic than anything)
Having some races start with certain skills (If they choose the profession that it goes with).
Race emotes...
Race guildhalls...
Race weapons (Cosmetic again)
Etc...

I could see new races, but really, only cosmetically. The way I see it, if a level 20 ranger winds up against another level 20 ranger, the fight should come down to who's more skilled, not "Ranger A will win because he's an Elf".

The pvp in this game is supposed to be who's a better player, not what race did he choose.

Once you go dead, I don't think you can go back!

Being a minotaur would be cool... perhaps also you could be a gargoyle-type thing... you could really make most things a playable race (except the plants. being a plant would be lame )

I'd like to play as one of the forgotten ones design the armor graphic for that race, and fly with it and instead of one sword in a hand, have 3 swords or even 6 if we dualwield, but have the 6 sword graphics count as 1 or 2 swords I'd like a kary/kali appearance with a snake tail

depends on what precisely you mean by elf there. High elves (sidhe) are rather tolkein-like at least in appearance. Arafel's Saga and the Merry Gentry series (by Laurell K Hamilton, I forget the author of hte first book) go into detail a bit more. The rest of fae has imps and faeries and pixies and all sorts of trickster things. Er.... sorry, little too into that stuff I guess

Anywho, I think having races -purely- for aesthetics is a great idea so long as it doesn't slow the game down any. Even introducing a bunch of new faces, hair colours and styles would be nice. I vote succubi/incubi become a race though

Though undeads are not their own race, they are kind of like a race in that they're a contained group. Nobody can become "not-undead" once they're undead. I think it would be cool if you could choose from all non-evil races that already exist in the game, such as dwarves... and... well... I don't remember meeting any other races so... dwarves. yes, we should be able to choose dwarf.

I also think it would be cool for characters who have finished the game (is this what "ascended" means?) to have the option to become undead regardless of their race... this would work best of course if this were a true MMORPG with shared maps, but then it wouldn't be free since the cost to maintain it would be so much greater.

top ten most likely to be new races.

10) Dark Elf
9) Elf
8) Skale
7) Imp
6) Lich (The fact that his name is Undead Lich and his wings hint that Lich is a race)
5) Charr
4) Tengu
3) Centaur
2) Forgotten
And the number one most likely new race is...
1) Dwarves

I personally would like to play as centaurs and forgotten.

I highly agree with this... making their own race would be beyond anything ive seen a game do before... They could try to add it into the story line somehow... I'm sure they'll think of a way.

Default So true.

[QUOTE=PS: Half-Elf? A pure-Elf is already just a human with pointy ears![/QUOTE]

Don't forget the long hair and the ballerina moves.

If any new playable races are to be added to the game, they should only be cosmetic and come from within the Guild Wars universe. Elves, light or dark are not in the game nor should they be. Orcs, nada.

One major problem exists to this idea of adding playable races to the game and that is humans are currently at war with every race in Tyria except for the good dwarves, one centaur, and a slightly friendly dragon. As a different race, how are you going to interact within human cities and towns without instantly being killed? Valarian.
